چکیده

We introduce and analyze two-period intertemporal competitive dynamic pricing models in the presence of both store-switchers and store-loyal consumers who may be either myopic or strategic. Our analysis reveals that (i) in the presence of storeswitching consumers, retailers’ profits may increase with an increase in the patience level of the strategic consumers, which never happens when consumers are store-loyal; (ii) when all consumers are store-switchers, retailers can be better off if they both ignore consumers’ strategic behavior than if neither ignores consumers’ strategic behavior, which never happens when all consumers are store-loyal; (iii) when all consumers are myopic, increased store-loyalty level increases prices and retailers’ revenues. By contrast, when all consumers are strategic, increased store-loyalty level may decrease prices and retailers’ revenues.

A DSS-Based Dynamic Programming for Finding Optimal Markets Using Neural Networks and Pricing

One of the substantial challenges in marketing efforts is determining optimal markets, specifically in market segmentation. The problem is more controversial in electronic commerce and electronic marketing. Consumer behaviour is influenced by different factors and thus varies in different time periods. These dynamic impacts lead to the uncertain behaviour of consumers and therefore harden the t...

Retailer Dynamic Pricing Behavior and the Pass-Through -Their Impacts on Consumer Welfare

In this paper, we examine retailers’ dynamic pricing behavior in a competitive environment, using scanner data on the refrigerated orange juice category. We examine two factors that may result in lower retail prices compared to static optimum prices at categorylevel profit maximization: (i) retailers’ use of a loss leader strategy for national brands to attract more consumers, and (ii) retailer...

Dynamic versus Static Pricing in the Presence of Strategic Consumers

The stochastic nature of demand suggests that firms can benefit from applying dynamic pricing strategies, where pricing decisions are postponed until information about demand is revealed. Many service providers, however, announce prices in advance and do not frequently adjust them as a response to market conditions (i.e., static pricing). This may seem suboptimal when demand is high and the fir...

Consumer Shopping Behaviors and In-Store Expenditure Decisions

The authors study the effect that consumers’ adopted shopping patterns have on their responsiveness to pricing activity of retailers. Two important dimensions of shopping behavior — inclination to switch stores and preference for a particular retail price format (every day low price (EDLP) or promotional price (HILO)) are hypothesized to systematically affect the responsiveness of in-store expe...

Dynamic Pricing Strategies Between Online and Off-Line Retailers Based on Switching Costs

With the development of e-commerce, online purchasing has made competitions among retailers fiercer than ever. Access on the internet influences traditional purchasing access inevitably. In this paper, the author uses Hotelling model to simulate the dynamic pricing process between online retailers and off-line retailers by the two steps game model. It gives a straightforward demonstration of th...
